March-April, high school students in Singapore schools have worked on the project Trashion ART "with John C. Torr , head of the Art Department. This project is part of efforts to Singapore Bona Vista School to increase the environmental awareness of students as part of their green program.

'Trashion' (a combination of "Trash" and "Mode") is the title given to the secondary assignment Art & Design, where students explored how trash could become visual art. This is an answer to the currency, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The two most important points of this mission is that the work is in three dimensions and it consists of at least 75 percent of waste.

To achieve these goals, students, parents and teachers in Singapore schools, Bona Vista were invited to bring their trash to the production of the work. Although the art room was ransacked for three weeks, Mr. Torr and high school students chose not to refuse anything and despite all incongruous comments they have made a leap forward with no time to lose. Mr. Torr at the helm and a crowd of excited students, armed with glue, tape, screwdrivers, drills and a penchant for the dismantling of computer keyboards and Barbie dolls, piles of garbage not sorted were caught in a whirlwind of activity maniac and processed into an array of strange but fascinating works of art.

The trash was turned into a winged 'Trashman' with wires spilling from his stomach, a collection of square glass boxes with items discarded by type and color, rods painted in wavy lines with decorated edge, a bauble mask made entirely of discarded jewelry (plus a Barbie head or two), complex parts made of all kinds of interesting objects, including sandals Dali (Salvador would have been proud) and Perm 'O' Cut (a play on the word computer). The assignment of "Trashion" was very successful in showing how collaboration, creative thinking and a lot of energy can produce very interesting results.

Singapore Bona Vista School was chosen by Ciputra Artpeneur Museum to participate in the Youth Art Exhibition of assessment 2015, with six other international schools. The exhibition was held for a week in late April and was held on the roof of the avenue Lotte Shopping Mall in Kuningan.

The discrete act of throwing something away briefly became a subject of study and reflection in this interesting art work and that the time has passed, its impact continues to resonate. After all, with garbage in one of the most luxurious malls of Jakarta was bold and sublime at the same time.

The exhibition 'of Trashion' is a wonderful example of how passion, hard work, awareness of current issues and some artistic talent has enabled Singapore school students Bona Vista to reveal their talents and show us that anything is possible.
