Raja Ampat in West Papua is known to be a paradise for divers, bird watchers and nature lovers. Although it is a sanctuary for wildlife, unfortunately it is not a waste of refuge.

Four friends spent a week enjoying the abundant dive sites of Raja Ampat, based on the island of Birie. One night a tropical storm fell on the island, bringing in the garbage with the tides, leaving the beach full of garbage. These cleaning heroes have decided not to leave the island in search of the way, grabbed a few bags, and within two hours they had cleared the beach of all waste.

The divers said the main stranded things on the beach were plastic bottles, plastic bottle caps, straws, plastic bags, polystyrene and single serve cups and plastic bottles. Some of the more unusual items found included dinosaur toys and toothbrushes.

It is heartbreaking to see garbage in paradise, but from this cleansing experience, we can learn to reduce our plastic consumption, eliminating plastic bags and Styrofoam your diets households completely. Use a reusable bag instead - they last for life! Practice the three R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - and we will give our oceans a chance. Thank you to the cleaning of heroes to inspire change!
