November 10 e , 2013, the first annual Day Clean Up Jakarta (CUJD) was held, bringing together 1,000 volunteers in 16 sites cleaning around Jakarta. Volunteers have made the Indonesian tradition of gotong royong picking up trash together and raising awareness of littering and the need for recycling in their city. This year, Jakarta Clean Up Day is set to be much larger, with about 5,000 volunteers around Jakarta get their hands dirty for a good cause.

CUJD 2014 will take place October 19 e approximately 30 sites throughout the city. The purpose of cleaning is to educate people about the harmful effects of litter, and in turn raise awareness of the importance of recycling.
