history Dian is a matter of survival.
I went one morning in his temporary accommodation in Kampung Bandan near Kota, living between two sets of tracks.
Dian works 11 hours a day. She began working at 8 am collecting all plastic bottles she can find along the tracks. In the evening she returns to his simple house to remove labels and clean the bottles that she sells to a recycling plant for Rp.3,500 per kg for his efforts.
Every three days it gathers approximately 8 kg and more, for extra income, she collects and sells cardboard, weather permitting.
Lebaran is a good time in this case, as Dian can earn up to Rp. 5,000 per kilo. Her husband was not working right now, so he minds their three year old daughter, and helps to sort plastic bottles.
Dian is a village called Ngawi in East Java and moved to Jakarta in search of a better life there are seventeen. She never returned to his village. Survive from day to day has become his number one priority.
Dian and her husband were renting a room in their Kampung until recently. They could not afford Rp.500,000 per month so had no choice but to move. The family now lives among the trains and pay only Rp.50,000 per month, which covers electricity and security costs.
They realize they may have to leave this place at any time and are not sure where to go next; maybe sleeping under a bridge where they remained there some time when they could not afford to pay for a roof over their heads. Therefore, they are grateful for what they have at present. Dian described nature as "easy-going" but she is worried about her daughter, who had fever in the last days and they do not have enough money to take her to the local clinic for medicine .
Fortunately, Dian rarely gets sick herself. It sees itself as a good Muslim and attends daily prayers when she can afford the time.
