Nyoman Jiwa started learning the art of wood carving from his grandfather when he was only 10 years. A gentle quiet man, this very talented craftsman takes its role in life very seriously; dividing his woodcarving in two distinct forms; Business and art. The commercial aspect is to make cabinets, tables and chairs for homes and private villas and carve pieces of stone for landscaping projects. Nyoman earn enough to feed his family and have a reasonable life, but his real woodcarving creativity is saved for special occasions such as ceremonies or cremation Odalan (temple ceremonies).
Nyoman helps build Bades (cremation towers that carry the bones of the deceased to the place where the cremation takes place), which helps the families of those who died. It helps to facilitate people whose time is to go to the next world or Niskala . When you excited , Nyoman meditates for inspiration of the gods, who helps his creative inspiration and orders him to do something very special for the family of the deceased.
Nyoman lives Gianyer regency, home of woodcarvers and arts center in Bali, with a long history of religious tradition where woodcarvers as Nyoman are highly revered. In the words of Louis Nizer, a famous American lawyer of British origin, "A man who works with his hands is a laborer, a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman, but a man who works with his hand his brain and his heart is an artist. "on this basis, I have no doubt that this humble gentleman indeed an artist with heart suit, hands and head, and I can only hope that his legacy will be passed to the younger generation, as it has been in the past.
