Tri is a young man determined enough with a plan. He moved to Jakarta three years ago from Yogyakarta, where he studied electrical engineering who landed a job at the University of IBS (Indonesia Banking System) in Kemang.
Like many people who come to Jakarta in search of better job opportunities and more money, the future of his children is his main goal in life. His family includes two children aged six and 11 years, and they remain in Yogya, while their father saves much money as he can to support the family.
Tri lives on the campus of the University, which saves transportation costs, and it happens to live there rent free. He works twelve hours a day and has two days off. Every two months, he takes the bus ride of ten hours back to see his family in central Java, enjoying many holidays in Jakarta.
In five years Tri plans to return to Yogyakarta and start his own business.
He told me about his very clear direction and sees many opportunities in Indonesia. He is happy to see the great improvements in the economy over the last three years and hope that will continue, although the corruption of sites as the biggest problem facing the country, and a feeling of frustration, as many young Indonesians, there is nothing much he can do about it.
Tri also recognizes the importance that learning English because it will create more job opportunities for him in the future. He hopes his children will finish school and pursue a good education and take advantage of opportunities he has given them.
