The family Lestari Sayang Anak Orphanage

I think a lot of us, even though we may not like to admit it, take things for granted, especially the love and support we have from our parents. Every child deserves to be loved unconditionally, even if not by their birth parents, and down a small alley in Cipete, South Jakarta, some very lucky babies have this birthright taken away from them are to be loved again.

Based on a dream by Ingrid Van der Mark, a school teacher part time, the vision of Anak Lestari Sayang Orphanage is for each of its children adopted individual experience love and care, as they would in a real home environment. Unlike large orphanages Lestari Sayang Anak aims to recognize each of the strengths and weaknesses of children and develop individual relationships with them, and this is achieved by keeping the capacity of orphans to poor little number.Although, this orphanage has enough love within its walls to heal the world. Ingrid, which itself has two beautiful adopted daughters, Lisa and Emily knew she would one day open an orphanage after visiting one in Romania that was in a terrible state.

After settling in Indonesia she finally started her own orphanage with the help of his brother-in-law, Ibu Rita, who helped tremendously with obtaining licenses and deeds. Unfortunately, Ingrid is a Dutch national, rules and regulations much more difficult for her to set up her charity, something I am sure the experience many of us have had with one way or another .

The family, which is exactly what they are, is composed of three nurses and Rita Ibu, Ibu PAH Wydia and Ibu Ibu Asih who all cook, clean and take care of their three orphans . They have such a close relationship with the children and the time spent together is filled with joy and laughter. The story of how each of these boys entered Ingrid care is one of the opposite, however.

Jimmy Baby

First there was Jimmy. This baby bounce turned one last April and has been at the orphanage since the age of two days. Her birth mother had a previous son, but unfortunately she was abused by her husband and had to take the difficult decision not to keep her second born. The mother heard about Lestari Sayang Anak through brochures which distributes Ingrid in clinical midwifery in the poorest areas of the city, and when Ingrid got the call, she went directly to the hospital where Jimmy was born to bring him to his new home. The birth mother has never met Jimmy and remained in a separate room when it was collected.

Six months later came Benny who was originally an orphanage in Bogor. At two months, his parents could no longer support him. They tried to contact several other orphanages, but they were all at full capacity. Fortunately, they found Ingrid. After talking on the phone, Benny was brought to Lestari Sayang Anak on a bike wrapped in a blanket. He was malnutritioned and had a rash all over his body. His daily diet consisted of only two bottles of milk per day, and rice porridge, which a two month old baby can not digest. Ingrid told me that the mother was expressionless when she handed over Benny, she could feel his pain. Abandon your child because of poverty must be the hardest thing a parent can ever do.

Baby Roby smilling Ingrid

Third, but not least came Roby, who was a baby Christmas, born on 24 December last year. His biological parents than sixteen when Robbie was born - it shows how sex education is needed here in Indonesia. Two days after his birth, he was raised to Lestari Sayang Anak and as Ingrid told me the story, little Roby is smiling and kicking away in the lap of Ibu Widya.

With three babies happy and healthy at the orphanage, Lestari Sayang Anak has space for five little more blessed. Their vision is to have another house not far away, to monitor five years and beyond until they are independent. Everything is given, toys for kindergartens and fortunately Ingrid was savvy enough to get sponsorship from Huggies and Frisian Flag, but even with these, the costs for running an orphanage are still high - rent, purchases food, water and public services all add drinking. But even when times are hard, the family Lestari Sayang stay positive and find a way to pull through - just like families do. "Everything we do here is from the heart," says Ingrid.

"Every child has the right to a healthy and happy life ..."
