Jalan Batubelig is 3 km drive from the junction Leo Square (west) Jalan Raya Kerobokan which becomes Jalan Berawa winding bridge then leading on Canggu club. It is one of the most dynamic parts of the west coast of North Kuta, with land prices doubling along this road in 2011, moving it in the price range of Seminyak.
Pavilion steakhouse bar most remarkable on Jalan Batubelig, both in terms of its modern architectural structure, a classic europeanstyle pavilion with two highceiling tent posts and wide main building blue and white striped and music, art and culture are in. Although a year this month, it has emerged as one of the smartest Bali places to eat, meet and greet. It offers the most famous jazz band of Bali, Rio Sidik Quartet and holds weekly monthlong famous galleries of art exhibitions and individual artists, ensuring that there is a continuous change of interior and exterior. So, let's hear what this young designer, owner and operator, Vanessa de Vries and singer and trumpet player, Rio Sidik, have to say.
Vanessa, which was the inspiration for Pavilion?
Pavillon is my first grill bar. I returned to Seminyak / Canggu there are two and a half years, so I guess I settled on what is the place for me. I had been walking with different ideas in my head about Pavilion for a while. Only after the signing of the lease of the land, however, I began to collect all my ideas together and create the concept that you see today. The feeling that I wanted to create is water and fresh -. As you are on a large spacious yacht-and I think I have achieved that
We started with our huge walls covered with photographs of large ocean racing yachts which added to the nautical theme. In recent months, we present different artists and art galleries, sculptures and other works of art. We often see guests walk around slowly, saw the paintings and immersed in different rooms, which later they come back and buy.
What really makes us unique in Jalan Batubelig is that we are the only place that provides world-class live music acts for free. There is no entry fee, the prices of food and drinks are unchanged on those nights, and that people get a brilliant live music performance that became one of the highlights of their stay in Bali. And we have plenty of parking at the rear, which is a real plus.
Why a grill bar? Who is your target market?
You, Me and the rest of Bali! We specialize in seafood and grilled steaks. Our steaks are very popular. Simple but pure. Organic and fresh food is suitable for our identity. This philosophy we also use for our drinks and cocktails. "Elegant enough to bring your date, casual enough to bring the family, affordable enough to return often ..." is how I would describe it. We have developed a large client quite who regularly; expatriates living nearby, and many tourists too. Both are loyal customers and loyalty is very important for any new business.
You opened a year ago, and got the place off to a good start very quickly. How did you do that?
Pavilion has its ups and downs. Sometimes it is quiet and sometimes it is full. We are always looking for ways we can become more stable. Maybe we opened earlier there. But this Bali region is developing very rapidly, and it is becoming better known. It is a chic part of Bali. We get up to 150 people a night, 20 the next day. It helps to have an "event" as our club meets, Hot soul and jazz nights. Now let's return to the high season again. People on foot or by car as we see sophisticated and associated as being expensive. Not so. Our customers are constantly evaluating us as having excellent food, wine and service -. At great prices Bali
I picked our team. They are all excellent, well-trained, experienced professionals, very open and friendly with our customers. This is a big part of our appeal. You can sit at the bar and talk to one of our staff in English or Indonesia. Two of them know other European languages too. Their friendly Indonesian professionalism shines through. And I'm here most of the time at night to keep our high motivated team -. shift when we have to, we all enjoy
You are known to have the most famous Bali jazz musicians with his all-star group, Rio Sidik Quartet as a feature regular Thursday evening.
Exactly. Rio likes to play songs of love and sexy jazz. They are good nights. People love music, the style of the place. Rio attracts a lot of lovely ladies and makes the place look good, creates a real buzz. We all like Rio and his band. They are brilliant, true best professional musicians, the best group of jazz and fusion in Bali. Parents bring their children to experience these special evenings. He is very relaxed. We try to do something special on these occasions. People love food and range of drinks, too.
Thursday night with Rio really help bring a crowd. People then come to see what we have on. Wednesday and Friday we have a fantastic DJ set. Wednesday night is HOT pavilion with exotic swing music mixed by one of my favorite DJ. Friday nights are also popular. We Aperitivo which begins at 17:00 before dinner with the price drink specials, complimentary canapés - tasters taken in the menu - and later a great DJ. The weekends are busier again as more people come for a pleasant evening with friends -. And make new friends
There is good music all day. Every night of the week is a little different at the Pavilion.
