internationally renowned midwife and founder of Yayasan Bumi Sehat, Robin Lim provides services to pregnant women and their children, as well as emergency relief, and educational programs. Robin Lim is native to the United States and lives in Bali. She recently returned from Dulag, Philippines, where Bumi Sehat and Wadah Foundation have set up a clinic providing relief in disaster for the thousands still affected by typhoon Yolanda.

You went to Sumatra after the tsunami and Haiti after the earthquake. You have been in the Philippines since the November 8 typhoon e , 2013 and return to Dulag where you have established a clinic. Tell me about the crisis there.
On November 8, 2013, 300 to 350 wind km / h and 10 to 14 meter waves surged through the Visayas leaving tens of thousands dead and millions of wounded, homeless, displaced people, and hungry. Yet three months after the disaster, few have electricity or any other form of light, there is no running water, and people living in the remains of huts. Poor before the storm, famers lost their crops, fishermen lost their boats and those working in coconut trade lost 80 to 90% of valuable trees. Livelihood is lost, but not hope, as the people of Central Philippines clean up the mess and pick up the pieces of their lives. In the Suspicious-Wary language they say, " Tindog Philippines " (Arise Philippines!).

At the heart of the disaster area Typhoon Haiyan, Wadah Foundation in partnership with the Bumi Sehat Foundation operates a medical relief camp and eat childbirth. following this storm, Wadah extended his healing hand, from November 2013, supporting the delivery of food shipments, water filters, buckets family, tarpaulins, tools, solar lights and medicines to underserved areas of devastation.

Mothers and Babies at Wadah Bumi

the UN estimates that 3.6 million affected in reproductive age females, with more than 95,000 pregnant women and at least 15% provided for complications of childbirth. These are statistics, but the truth is, the degree of devastation and despair that is present here is immeasurable. That is why the efforts of Wadah / Bumi Sehat focus on pregnant, childbirth, postpartum women, infants, children and families. Disaster, babies must be born again, even if the mother is homeless, sick, hungry and thirsty.

In November 2013, Wadah / Bumi attended Mercy in action as they established a medical relief camp and childbirth in Dulag. In January 2014 Wadah / Bumi has taken full responsibility for the operation and staffing of this essential community approach.

These are the miracles to date:

- numbers receiving high quality dietary supplements as "Plumpy Sup" WFP and food bars (direct international relief, Carmans and One Org Health.): More than 35,000

last night, we received four new babies into the tent of humble birth. Yesterday, four babies were born, and when there are three mothers in labor. rural and municipal health centers are in ruins, so they send their patients to us. Postpartum mothers at Wadah / Bumi Childbirth Eating only have beds to rest on. Some nights, every bed is full, and the staff give up their own tent to shelter families, as there is always room in the inn. We can be camped humbly that we are in the remains of the San Jose Elementary School, but lives are saved here, and hope is restored for mothers who have no place at all to have their babies and get medical care. Some of our babies were stillborn, but by the grace and the miracle of neonatal resuscitation, all babies have.

Twins, breech and premature babies have, against all odds. Mothers in the wake of disasters malnourished and post-traumatic stress disorder, which causes extreme pressure, requiring special care; The Wadah / Bumi midwives, doctors and nurses are at work. Some mothers bleeding; the medical team Wadah / Bumi is qualified and ready. We are open 24/7. Although we have the undependable electricity, we have our solar suitcase of We Care Solar. We have no running water, but we have buckets and strong arms to carry water. As a team, we're tired of working day and night, but we feel so blessed to be called to serve and be part of the healing of the Philippines.

Bumi Sehat Bali also had, for the past 10 years, without beginning of computing and advanced courses without English language courses, organic gardening, and sometimes music. We are very proud of the scholarship program. The girls from the poorest families, with the dream of becoming a midwife, teacher or nurse, can be sponsored by Bumi Sehat tuition, room, board, uniforms, books, transport, complete so they can achieve success with diplomas in service occupations, they are called to.

Tell us about the role of midwives and childbirth more natural techniques, gentle in our world today.
Each day on planet earth, over 800 women in the prime of their lives, dies from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Many of these women die because they lack access to a skilled birth attendant. For people not so rich of the world, midwifery care is generally much more available and affordable. The woman in the feminine care model truly saves lives.

Women of all cultures deserve loving, kind, gentle care for their needs in reproductive health. Women on the front of this pretty culturally appropriate model of care midwives.

You are married and have eight children. How do you keep all these different aspects of your life?
The hormone oxytocin is the hormone of LOVE. I am surrounded day and night oxytocin; in birthing rooms in Bali and Aceh, in the tent of birth in the Philippines where now over 250 babies were born. I love my job. My family is great support and love, they keep me safe, and they continue to pass me.

You return to Dulag, Philippines later this month. Will it be the next permanent Bumi Sehat Clinic
Yes, there is the need ?; following the biggest storm to make landfall in human history, Bumi Sehat donors, sponsors, people like our readers, who care and give all they can behind the Medical Relief Bumi / Wadah Childbirth and Camp Dulag. Rotary Tacloban is ready to build us a permanent clinic. So we need to go.

The tsunami in Aceh was the most catastrophic disaster in terms of human deaths in a single day in history. Bumi Sehat is the latest NGOs in our region, north of Meulaboh. We just had our 9 e birthday. This tells me that our donors are truly believe that community-based health care is a human right.
